A Very Quick Email Formatting Tip

I've been providing communications services for one of my clients, writing articles and newsletters, sending weekly email updates to specialized distribution lists, doing weekly web updates, and posting online the discussion notes from leadership meetings. Most of their needs fit nicely into Word, Outlook, and FrontPage. It's no surprise that people using different browsers see pages differently--but this same disparity exists in email clients, too. Something I send from Outlook might look completely different in another person's Inbox. To gain a bit of control over the format of the emails, I fudge a bit by creating a single-cell Word table, writing the email update within the cell (formatting as needed), and using File > Send To > Mail Recipient to send the document directly to the list. Using the table cell contains the formatting and limits the margins. If the recipient is set up to receive Text Only messages, the formatting will still be removed, but at least for those who can receive HTML messages, things will look the way I want them to. It's the small things in life that count. :) k

A Glimpse into the Tech Future

I haven't been very consistent in my mini-reviews of Office 2003 features....I've just been up to my eyeballs in deadlines the last two weeks (which is a good thing...I'm thankful for the abundant work!). But I did take time out this morning to pour over a new trial subscription I signed up for from Strategic News Service, and I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to pass it along to those of you who spend lots of your time in the tech world. This is a professional journal and it's priced as such (after the trial subscription) but businesses will find the tech-future info worth the investment. Here's the link: http://www.tapsns.com/. As soon as I get a spare moment to breathe, I'll get back to the Office 2003 info...probably covering some of the new Outlook features next. :) k

An InfoPath Example

I want to pass along a good article I just found that gives a specific example of the way InfoPath can be used to turn paper forms into XML smart forms: Using InfoPath to Create Smart Forms
